Are you too Busy??

It amazes me how fast a day goes by. Sometimes I find myself wanting to curl up in the fetal position and cry my eyes out because of all the things I didn’t get done. It is a delicate balance being a Mom and wife. There are so many things to do and not enough time to do it all…

I feel like God has been gently nudging me to slow down and forget some of my “to do” list. You see, in the end our children will not care about how clean the house was, how successful we were at work, or how great we were at tackling a “to do” list. The only things they will remember is the time we spent or did not spend with them…

Ouch!

I makes me sad to think of all the moments I sometimes miss because I have too many things to do!

I am so thankful that the Lord does not allow me to walk in my ignorance long enough to cause any real damage! Time is a gift from the Lord and it is the best thing we can offer to the little blessings He gave us!

How do you know if you are too busy?

Warning Signs and Cures:

At the end of the day you are so stressed and tired that you snap at your husband and family and complain about how no one appreciates you.

Cure: Laugh at yourself more and do not expect more from yourself than you are humanly able to give!

Your day is so jam-packed full of things to do that any variance in your schedule causes you to hyperventilate.

Cure: Get a grip and slow down! You have too many things on your plate. Trim the fat and only do what really matters–keeping in mind that more quality (unscheduled) time with YOU, is all that your kids really want or need.

You say “no” far too often.

Cure: Say “yes” more! Time should always win. Lists of things to do, meaningless tasks and busyness will not make you happy. Time with your kids WILL!

For married Moms–Sex is non existent in your life. You are far too tired at the end of the day and your poor husband is quite thirsty!

Cure: Throw your list away and rock your husband’s world. If you don’t you are opening the door to temptation…

You have multiple “to do” lists or you have a detailed list with categories.

Cure: Well, first, LOL, (((hugs))), I feel you, sister! However, you must let this obsession with getting things done, and checking things off your list under control. Sure, it is OK to have a list. However, the list should be a reminder and a goal that comes AS YOU CAN do it–NOT above what really matters… Time with your family!

Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” - Luke 10:38-42

Keep in mind that when Martha came and complained to Jesus about how she had all this stuff to do and Mary was a lazy listless good for nothing (Of course I am paraphrasing…LOL), Jesus did not side with Miss Busy Pants. He made it very clear that Mary understood what really matters…

Do you?

It is never too late to make a change and lighten the burden of your schedule. Better yet… pencil in NO LIST and tickle the kids time! ;) I know that is what I will be doing!

This has been my battle lately. I want my home to be so clean, neat and organized that I am often too busy for the little things. Reading this post today helped and I will try to not sweat the small stuff and spend more time with my family.
